Branching Out

Finally finishing the "story" of the kid's room. While it's been done for some time now, I've been quite remiss in actually getting some pictures here.

Again, I can't take credit for the paint job - Papa did all that...

Welcome to the (Wintery) World

Good morning Simon!
Our delightful little chap was born January 6, 2010. (Which means it's taken me almost a month to get around to posting this...) Big sister is very proud.

Born in the water on a stormy night.

Updatery

I have come to the conclusion that blogging and graduate school do not mix... This should be evident by my lack of posts over the last few months. Well, now it's winter break so here's
some updates...

I am about three weeks away from due date of baby #2... Feeling fat and sassy.

Some knitting has been accomplished:

For the new baby.... Munchkin Hat on ravelry

And matching for big sis...

A little sweater for a dear friend's boy - Joelle Hoverson's Child's Placket-Neck Pullover also on ravelry...

And, a delightful knit... the Baby Sophisticate pattern, also from ravelry

So many more things to do before our new addition gets here. Now that finals are over I feel I can officially "nest" and settle in for a while. Oh, if that weren't for the massive piles of laundry that have been growing steadily during finals, the mending... I guess that's all part of the nesting though.

If you'll excuse me, I hear the vacuum calling my name.

Finished knits

The birthday sweater:

Knitted squid pair - the second is for the new baby.

Asymmetrical cardigan courtesy of a free Ravelrey pattern. Buttons were a going-out-of-business special.

A shrug for Dear Daughter on those brisk fall days that don't quite call for a full sweater.

More to come... and hopefully some actual stories and updates as well.

New Year

I guess my resolutions started early. I've been making sure that my daughter is the priority of my life and attempting not to "just get one more thing done." So, some other things have fallen by the wayside. Namely, this here blog and updating it regularly.

There were a few things to share here, but some would have involved divulging Christmas secrets so I thought they could wait.

Here is Squid Delicious:

A knitted and felted squid made from a pattern courtesy of Berroco.

Here is one of the Christmas ornaments that family received as gifts - a handmade Christmas - it was a robin's nest with eggs to represent each of the members of our little group. I knitted it using a modified egg pattern (to shrink them down) and a bowl pattern (also shrunk) and then felted - again with Berroco yarn.

Here is Lucy's Larry the Canary:

And Mr. Cardinal:
And the largest in a series of cubes:

Simple, but she loves them.

We had a wonderful first Christmas with our dear Lucy, modest though it was. Our families were extremely generous and Lucy got lots of books! I can't wait to share some of her new reads and music with you. I've been enjoying reading to her more than ever and we're working on French and Spanish.

Felted Cube

I am trying to learn to knit. Tackling the traditional projects seems a tad blasé... I am knitting a crimson red poncho for Lucy that is taking me... much longer than it should. And, I've been itching to felt something. So today I started knitted squares... eventually there will be six which I will felt and so together to create a cube to stuff with poly-fill and a bell for Lucy.

The fabric hanging off the bowl to the right side is the first finished square. I've cast on the second and worked two knit rows. I hope this works.
